Learn More about Osaka Castle

Osaka Castle and the pleasant parks that surround it are perfect for a relaxing getaway from the city. It is located right in the city center of Osaka. The castle walls and dungeons are the centerpieces of the castle park, a destination for both leisure and relaxation. The park is a large green area with gardens and open spaces, and also includes cultural and sports facilities such as the Osaka Castle Hall, an arena, a baseball field, and a running track.

Climb to the top of the castle's dungeon to enjoy the view of its huge estate as well as the skyscrapers nearby. Or bring a bento and have a picnic among the cherry and apricot trees. The latter is even more majestic in spring when they are in bloom.

Osaka Castle as we know it today is actually a reproduction, completed in 1931. This unorthodox hybrid construction consists of a dungeon whose exterior is strongly inspired by the castle built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Indeed, the original was left in ruins.

From the outside, the dungeon appears to be five floors high, but it is actually eight. On the various floors, the building houses many historical items, such as panels and dioramas, depicting the life of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and the social and cultural context of the time. On the second floor, for example, there is a golden tiger, a replica of the ones that adorn the black walls of the upper floor of the keep, and a life-size replica of the shachihoko. On the top floor is an observation point that provides a 360-degree view of the city of Osaka and beyond.

Osaka Castle is a must-see during your stay in Osaka, it is the symbol of the city not to be missed, come and discover the typical Japanese architecture in a peaceful place.
